On Tuesday 23rd November 2021 Trust Bank donated items worth D250,000 to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital at a colorful ceremony held at the hospital grounds in Banjul.
In her keynote address the managing director of the bank Njilan Senghore reiterated the commitment of the bank in promoting quality health care delivery in the country and that this donation contributes in making a difference to the lives of the vulnerable in our society
Here is an extract of her statement: “Distinguished Ladies and gentlemen, it is with pleasure and humility that I stand before you today. Allow me to first of all express my delight in meeting the Chief Medical Director and staff of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for the first time having taken over the helm of affairs at Trust Bank Ltd recently
Our relationship with EFSTH dates back many years when the bank identified the then neglected TB referral treatment center commonly known as Sanatorium and the Leman Street clinic as two health facilities in urgent need of refurbishment and support. The Bank took up the challenge and invested millions in improving the standards of these two facilities; Many years later, the Bank also added the psychiatric hospital known as tanka-tanka in Salagi to its list of worthy causes
Today we are here to deliver a donation of items worth D250,000 to the dialysis unit of this hospital. Allow me to provide some background on how our intervention with the dialysis unit came to be. In 2016, a beloved member of our staff was diagnosed with chronic renal failure. We witnessed firsthand the devasting effect that this diagnosis brought to him, his family and to all of us at the Bank. Unfortunately, in 2019, we lost him but his legacy lives on as it is through his case that we have come to be associated with the dialysis unit and we dedicate this donation today to the memory of Mr. Ebrima Frazer. May His Soul continue to Rest In Perfect Peace. I’m sure we all know that the kidney plays an important role in the human body and is essential for normal functioning of the human system. Unfortunately, we are seeing a higher prevalence of kidney disease in the Gambia and like most sub-Saharan nations, The Gambia is plagued by limited resources available for management of end stage renal disease. Dialysis is the most common form of renal therapy available locally but there is general inadequacy of consumables which unfortunately leads to patients being under dialyzed or in some cases not dialyzed at all for days and weeks. Kidney disease like I said has become prevalent in the Gambia but what saddens us most is that it is on the rise in youths who are in the most economically productive years
of their lives. We hope that our donation today, will help patients and their families stay on dialysis while they seek further and longer lasting treatment option
Trust Bank Ltd is a Proudly Gambian Bank and while we are clearly a profit-making business, we understand that our economic activities must ultimately serve the interests of our society in tangible and meaningful ways. Corporate Social Responsibility is fully embedded in our strategy and that is why social and environmental concerns are our business. We have an unshakeable commitment to play an important part in the economic and social fabric of the communities in which we operate. No one understands the specific needs of hospitals better than those who work there and over the past few months, we have engaged and consulted them to ensure that our donations will have the desired impact. Ladies and Gentlemen, over the past couple of weeks, we have donated a total of D1Million to the health sector to demonstrate our commitment to saving the lives of Gambians by better equipping our hospitals.
As the Managing Director of Trust Bank Ltd, I look forward to continuing this relationship, and most importantly partnering with EFSTH and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in many more years. Together, we can improve life choices and chances and help disadvantaged people all over The Gambia.
I cannot end without thanking members of our health sector. The doctors, nurses and staff of all hospitals all over the Country who work tirelessly through challenging circumstances and limited resources to deliver the best healthcare services that they can to our people especially during the COVID pandemic when risk was highest. We thank you for your service and encourage you to keep up the good work.
On behalf of Trust Bank Ltd, I would like to convey to the Board and Management of EFSTH our profound sense of joy and appreciation and also reiterate our firm commitment to further strengthen our partnership for the benefit of the people of the Gambia”.
