On Tuesday, 7th July 2020 Trust Bank Ltd donated 1,200 liters of liquid soap to the Ministry for Basic & Secondary Education. In presenting the items, Mr. Ibrahima Salla, Managing Director of Trust Bank Ltd said;
Trust Bank is a key partner in the COVID-19 response in the Gambia. Not long ago we donated over D250,000.00 to support both the Ministry of Health and Local Government Authorities to provide preventive measures such as handwashing stations to communities across the country. Today we are extending similar support to the schools through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education by donating 1,200 litres of liquid soap.
The outbreak of COVID-19 was declared a Public Health Emergency and the virus has since entered our borders. While a lot is still unknown about the virus, we do know that it is transmitted through direct contact with respiratory droplets of an infected person-generated through coughing and sneezing. Individuals can also be infected from touching surfaces contaminated with the virus and touching their faces.
The virus is still with us but we have no doubt that the best interest of every child was taken on board as you take this decision to re-open schools. We recognize that it is a very delicate decision which calls for concerted efforts to make it a success.
The COVID-19 pandemic poses daunting challenges to governments and families across the country. Currently affecting all sectors, the virus has turned the lives of children and their education upside down. As a proudly Gambian Bank, Trust Bank cannot be indifferent to the plight of our children who are the future of our country. That is why we responded quickly to your request for support to help provide consumables that can protect students, staff, teachers, and their families against the COVID-19.
Honorable Minister, on behalf of the Management and staff of Trust Bank Ltd, I will like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and commend your bold decision to re-open the schools albeit in a phased approach and the precautionary measures taken to prevent the entry and spread of COVID-19 in schools
The protection of children and educational facilities is particularly important to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in school settings. This will help to ensure that our schools continue to be open uninterruptedly unlike other parts of the world where they were opened and closed shortly thereafter due to a spike in the number of new infections.
Honorable Minister, we know how hard it has been over the last few months since the outbreak of the Covid 19. Yes, we do know that you have a difficult path ahead, but we have no doubt that you are up to the task.
We at Trust Bank are immensely proud to have the privilege to donate these items and also would like to assure you of our continued support.
Mr. Salla concluded
Trust Bank Ltd donated traffic cones to the Banjul Traffic Police. The event which was held at the Police Headquarters in Banjul was attended by the Police high command and staffs of rust Bank Ltd including Mr. Alex Gomez, Ms. Sally Makalo, and Mr. Alhagi Sunno. In presenting the donation on behalf of the Managing Director of Trust Bank, Mr. Sheikh Trawally Public Relations of the Bank underscored the important role that the police are playing in the maintenance of law and order in the country.
Mr. Trawally said that:
the level of criminal sophistication faced by Police officers continues to evolve, and fighting crime is getting more expensive every year. The Police need proper logistics to enable them to perform their jobs satisfactorily. This was precisely the reason why it was not difficult to accede to your request for support
By this donation, we are not only providing support to the local Police Force responsible for maintaining law and order but we are also maximizing the creation of shared values. As a Bank with branches in every nook and cranny in the country, we directly depend on the services of the police force for the security of our provincial branches. Our provincial branches have police personnel stationed there since the recent spate of armed robberies in the provinces
He said.
He concluded by affirming the Bank’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with the Gambia Police Force for the benefit of the two institutions. He concluded
